CHONGQING

METROPOLIS SUNDAY

"Embedded in the gigantic urban landscape of Chongqing, I find quiet, almost deserted places, but many traces that point to human beings".

Chongqing is one of the world's largest cities and the economic centre of southwest China. The city's skyscrapers nestle into the hilly topography around the confluence of the Jialing and Yangtze rivers. The city's rapid growth means that new buildings soon look old. As a result, the city is characterised by a shifting appearance between new beginnings and decay. This results in strong contrasts between the built and natural environment.
Despite the high population density and the size of the city, it seems almost deserted and quietly abandoned in many places. Instinctively, I glide through the quiet streets of the city, collecting found objects that illustrate my sensations and my subjective view of the city.
